WHY AMANDA ?

Amanda offers a unique set of qualities that will bring an advantage to our riding in Victoria and as part of the NDP:

  • She has experience working in government, being elected and working with constituents.

  • She has extensive experience with policy design, development, implementation and operation. Amanda has an advanced understanding of the policy life cycle and how policy impacts the lives of citizens on a daily basis. This means she knows how to get things done for the people in our communities.

  • She has established relationships with local governments, First Nations and organizations.

AMANDA AMARAL

Amanda was born and raised in Kapilin, the lands and waters of the shíshálh people in Pender Harbour. She now lives in Ch'kw'elhp the lands and waters of the Skwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw in Gibsons.

She lives in Gibsons with her partner Judith and their children. They are a blended family: two mums, five kids and a border collie! They are a family where everyone belongs and where diversity is truly a strength.  

Amanda brings a unique combination of skills, experience and education that will make her an exceptional candidate for MLA. She has experience governing, she has experience working in government and she has experience in community leadership. As a practicum student in Jenny Kwan’s constituency office she learned that politics was service. She understands how to lead and govern with strength and compassion.

Amanda believes in the importance of the labour movement. She is the proud daughter of a long serving members of the BCTF and Operating  Engineers. Amanda was a member of the BCEGU for 15 years and her partner Judith is a current BCGEU member.

Amanda is currently the chair of the Sunshine Coast Board of Education; this is her fourth consecutive year elected as chair of the Board and her second term on the Board. She understands how to lead and govern.  Amanda also has nearly 20 years’ experience working as a public servant for the Government of British Columbia and is currently a Director with the Ministry of Children and Family Development. She understands the complexity, the processes and how to accomplish things in government. She is committed to community service with nearly 20 years of service on a variety of community boards, from the Town of Gibsons Board of Variance to a local Girl Guide leader. Community and people are at the heart of everything Amanda does.
